The dramatic seismic events that have recently occurred in Italy have highlighted the extreme fragility of the existing built heritage. The present article intends to investigate the potential of BIM modeling in structural improvement projects of existing buildings with framed structure in reinforced concrete. An information management flow will be outlined which, starting from the modeling of the initial conditions, leads to the federation of structural models able to allow the simulation of the hammering phenomenon between moment frames of adjacent buildings. The methodology will be discussed on the basis of a trial conducted on a case study of building school.
