Abstract

ENGLISH ABSTRACT Practice-Oriented Educational Research – Conditions and Dilemmas in the Encounter Between Researchers and Practitioners in Danish Primary Schools This article explores the conditions and dilemmas of practice-oriented educational research in Danish primary schools, focusing on the relationship between researchers and practitioners. Based on a self-study approach, the authors analyze two PhD projects involving collaboration with schoolteachers. The study highlights how the ambition to create change in educational practice can be challenged by a lack of mutual understanding and equality between researchers and practitioners. Drawing on Wenger-Trayner & Wenger- Trainers’ concept of social learning spaces, the article identifies three key factors for value creation in research partnerships: Caring to make a difference, engaging uncertainty, and paying attention. Through case analyses, the authors show how insufficient communication, and involvement can lead to mistrust and resistance from practitioners. The article argues that practice-oriented research requires a reflective and relational approach, where roles and expectations are made explicit. It contributes new insights into how researchers can foster more equitable and trust-based collaborations with practitioners, emphasizing the importance of ongoing dialogue and mutual recognition throughout the research process.
