Bruk av dramapedagogikk og forumspill i veiledning av profesjonsveiledere

Abstract

Mentors often encounter complex situations that require nuanced problem-solving and effective communication. Forum Theatre involves group participation in staged scenarios to collectively and immediately explore trying to change the oppressed situation. The study aims to explore the use of Forum play and its contribution to mentors’ professional development. The research question is: How do professional mentors experience participating in Forum play handling with challenging situations in mentoring? The study is based on a qualitative design, with an autoethnographic approach. The participants’ descriptions of their experiences of participating in the Forum play with an emphasis on handling challenging situations being a mentor and preceptor are analysed. Three themes were formed through the analysis: (1) Courage and willingness to participate, (2) Learning by role-playing the challenging situation, and (3) Expanding one’s readiness as mentors. Forum play can be used to reflect on and handle challenging situations as professional guidance for individuals and a collective professional development. Professional guidance when using Forum play can provide the opportunity to review assumptions, ideas and perceptions that may be the basis for pedagogical choices and for pedagogical practice. The use of Forum play with an emphasis on handling challenging situations for professional guidance can prepare mentors for future challenging situations.
