Abstract

<p style="text-align: justify;">Uno de los problemas más apremiante que padecen los adultos mayores de 75 años son las fracturas de cadera producto de caídas, ello motivó a determinar los efectos de un programa de fuerza muscular de 16 semanas en pacientes, luego de una intervención quirúrgica sobre la fuerza y capacidad funcional. Fue un ensayo controlado con una muestra de 78 pacientes varones, intervenidos quirúrgicamente en el servicio de Traumatología y Ortopedia del hospital Luis Vernaza, en el período comprendido entre febrero y de marzo de 2017. Se diseñó un programa de fuerza muscular para el grupo, que inició un mes después de salir de la cirugía y duró 16 semanas, se realizaron pruebas pre y post programa. Los resultados demostraron que el grupo que practicó el entrenamiento incrementó la fuerza muscular del tren inferior en un 50% en los cuádriceps y un 62,5% en el ejercicio de elevación de talones. El grupo aumentó la fuerza muscular del tren inferior en un 5% en cuádriceps y un 11% en elevación de talones. Se concluyó que un programa de este tipo mejora significativamente la fuerza muscular y capacidad funcional de la marcha y el equilibrio en adultos mayores.</p>
