Abstract

<p style="text-align: justify;">Revisando la literatura, observamos cómo existen múltiples trabajos acerca del desarrollo y de la agenesia dentaria, la mayoría de ellos, sin embargo, excluyen el estudio del tercer molar quizá debido a su amplia variabilidad. Se efectuó un estudio observacional, descriptivo y transversal de 250 pacientes en las edades de 8 a 18 años, atendidos en la consulta de ortodoncia, desde enero del 2016 hasta enero del 2017, con el fin de determinar la presencia de los terceros molares y sus características. La información necesaria se obtuvo de las historias clínicas y de las radiografías panorámicas, y entre los principales resultados estuvo la existencia de los cuatro cordales (57,2%), lo cual fue más frecuente en el grupo etario de 6-12 años (48,1%), en el sexo masculino (62,4%) y en el grupo étnico mestizo (48,0%). Se concluyó que la mayoría de la casuística presentaba al menos un tercer molar, sobre todo en el maxilar inferior.</p> <p> </p>
