espanolEl Canal de Isabel II es una de las redes de captacion y distribucion mas importantes de Espana, abastecido por los rios madrilenos, garantiza el suministro de un agua de excelente calidad a practicamente todos los municipios de Madrid. Con objeto de comprender la magnitud de dicha empresa presentamos los antecedentes que dieron lugar a su origen, asi como un repaso a lo largo de toda la historia de su construccion y su situacion en la actualidad. Ademas, se analizara la cuenca hidrografica de la Comunidad de Madrid y las caracteristicas quimicas y fisico-quimicas que hacen del agua madrilena una de las mejores del pais. EnglishThe Canal de Isabel II is one of the most important catchment and distribution networks in Spain. Supplied by the rivers of Madrid, this network guarantees the provision of high quality water to most of its municipalities. In order to better understand the magnitude of this mission, the history of its beginning, construction and actual state are included in this paper. Furthermore, the chemical and physicochemical properties of Madrid’s drainage basin, which have transformed its water into one of the best in Spain, will be analyzed.
