The research aimed to develop a fault-tolerant multiphase PMSM motor for safety-critical applications. The goal was to enhance fault tolerance while maintaining simplicity and torque stability under fault conditions. The machines designed with discovered slot-pole combinations can retain more percentage of post-fault torque whereas using a simple control strategy. The machines also maintained acceptable performance in healthy operation. The performance in one of the post-fault simple shutdown strategies is comparable to the complicated optimal current control strategy.
