Mastic Chewing Gum is an Useful Antiplaque Agent.

Abstract

本研究は, マスティックガムが抗プラーク剤として有効か否かを評価することを目的に, 1) 唾液中の細菌増殖に対する抑制能と2) 歯面へのプラーク形成および歯肉炎の抑制能を調べた。全身的に健康で歯周疾患を有さないボランティア20人を被験者とした。まず, 機械的ブラッシングの後, 各被験者を二重盲検法によりマスティックガム, プラシボガム, 塩化ベンゼトニウムあるいはリン酸緩衝液で洗口する群の4群に分けた。実験開始前および1時間毎に4時間後まで唾液を回収し, 希釈して嫌気培養後, 各培地上のコロニー数を算出して唾液中の細菌数とした。次に, ブラッシングを1週間禁止し, マスティックガムあるいはプラシボガムを毎食後20分使用させた。1週間後に, 歯垢形成および歯肉炎の状態を2群間で比較, 検討した。マスティックガム使用群はPBS洗口群またはプラシボガム使用群に比較して, 唾液中の細菌増殖を4時間後まで有意に抑制したp<0.05)。マスティックガム使用群ではプラシボガム使用群に比較して, Plaque Index (2.69±0.29vs (3.15±0.24, P=0.001) およびGingival Index (0.44±0.15vs0.66±0.23, p=0.021) が有意に低かった。これらの結果は, マスティックガムが, 唾液中の細菌増殖, 歯面へのプラーク形成および歯肉の炎症反応を抑制することを介して, プラークコントロールに有効な素材であることを示唆する。
