EDUARD STEU ERMAN N, pianist, composer, and teacher, enjoyed the friendship of Schoenberg for nearly forty years, and has been the foremost interpreter of the latter's piano music. Born in Poland when it was still part of the AustroHungarian empire, Steuermann moved to Berlin in his teens to study with Busoni who, in 1911, first singled out Steuermann's talent as a composer in the Signalefuer die Musikalische Welt. Despite a full schedule as a performer, teacher, coach, and editor of piano literature, Steuermann has produced an impressive number of compositions. The list includes three Song Cycles, two String Quartets, a Trio, two orchestral works and numerous compositions for piano, many of which have been performed frequently in New York and elsewhere.
