Hartert (Nov. Zool., 32: 147, 1925) says: "This peculiar bird is known only from the type specimen. It is very peculiar, the crown to the base of the upper bill nearly black, underside heavily striped. I am not sure about its relationship." Hartert and Steinbacher (V6gel pal. Fauna, Erganzungsband, 4: 374, 1935) says: ". . . das man fur ein melanistiches stuck halten m6chte, doch hebt der Autor den schlankeren und spitzeren Schnabel noch besonders hervor."
