Progresismo militar en América Latina durante el período entre guerras

Abstract

Estas p'aginas pretenden adentrarse eti algunos aspectos concretos de los establecimientos militares latinoamericanos, durante uln lapso de tiempo que comprende, aproximadamente, las decadas 20 y 30 del siglo en curso. Dichos aspectos se refieren a la rnanifestacion de orientaciones politicoideologicas de carfacter reformista y aun revolucionario en diversos elementos de los aparatos militares de la region. Las experiencias militarprogresistas 1 que se considerani en el estudio son tanto las de sectores que Ilegan a ocupar por alg n tiempo la conduccion del aparato de Estado (Cardenas en Mexico; Busch, Toro y Villarreal en Bolivia; Marmaduke Grove en Chile), como las que solo adquieren importancia como corriente o movimiento politico (el Tenentismo en Brasil). Este trabajo es un esfuerzo preliminar para enlazar uina serie de casos concretos que ya han sido revisados en forma monografica, a partir de los cuales ahora se busca establecer algunas generalidades minimas. Por tal motivo el analisis de estas experiencias es abordado desde una perspectiva global, lo que necesariamente obliga a dejar de lado un sinniumero de detalles y especificidades. Sin embargo, se intenta trazar una vision de conjunto sobre las causas que permitan adelantar explicaciones generales y, al mismo tiempo, apuntar los factores ma6s relevantes para cada situacion particular.
