Escasez, explotación y pobreza en México: conclusiones

Abstract

d Acaso la sobrepoblaci6n tiene su origen en la pobreza, como lo afirniaba Malthus? 0 tiene su raiz en, la explotacion capitalista de la mano de obra, como lo sostenia Marx? Un examnen cuidadoso de los puntos basicos en cuestion, entre estas perspectivas teoricas opuestas, condujo a un enfoque critico basado en once preguntas. Al planteamiento de estas interrogantes siguio un esfuerzo por darles respuesta dentro de un marco apropiado, historicamente especifico. Se selecciono a Mexco como caso de estudio debido a la fuerte polarizacion que se encontro, en la situacion mexicana, de las variables clave que se discuten en este estudio: escasez y explotacion. Para Malthus, la sobrepoblacion genera escasez, que a su vez da cuenta de la pobreza. Para Marx, la propiedad privada sobre los medios de producci6n permite la explotacion de la mano de obra, mediante la expropiacion de la plusvalia producida por el trabajo, y dicha explotacion es, a su vez, el origen de la pobreza. Mexico era conocido como uno de los paises con mas rapido ritmo de crecimiento demografico del mundo, y con mas desigual esquema de distribucion del ingreso. La fiialidad del presente ensayo es tratar de resumir las conclusiones que pueden ser inferidas con base en este estudio.
