Abstract

The term well elderly does not necessarily mean illness free. In fact, it is estimated that 85 percent of the elderly have some form of chronic illness.* But many, on fixed incomes, cannot afford routine health checkups. Thus, new problems may go undetected and chronic disorders may escalate into acute illnesses. To address these problems, the Pittsfield Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) offers free, comprehensive health care services to keep the elderly well. And it brings the clinics to the clients.
