Abstract

minor surgery. About 475 procedures were done each month, encompassing all surgical specialties except cardiac and microotologic surgeries. The department was staffed 24 hours a day on weekdays and 16 hours a day on weekends with on-call coverage at night. The average staff for the day shift consisted of a nurse supervisor, 11 to 12 registered nurses, 2 to 3 technicians, 3 to 4 orderlies, 2 aides, and a ward clerk.
