kept lowered for a certain number of hours, I have devised a support which, placed under the mattress pad on the stretcher, maintains the patient at an angle of ten degrees until he is placed in bed. This support, which resembles an inclined plane, is 48 inches long, 18 inches wide, slopes from a height of 2 inch to 8/2 inches. It is made of half-inch lumber and is painted white, so it is neither heavy and cumbersome to handle nor unsightly. It is placed on the stretcher and taken off according to our needs, and may be stored in a small amount of closet space. Any carpenter can make such a support at a minimum amount of expense, and the dangers of bad results from a spinal anesthetic are greatly reduced by keeping the patient in the same position until fully recovered.
