Abstract

T HIS is only the second time I've been asked to talk about nursing: usually the request is to change the subject! The first time was before my marriage, when my husband said: "Tell me about this profession of yours. I never could see why any one wanted to go into it." In spite of that remark, we were married, and I think I made a convert, for only a short time ago I heard him say to our youngest, "When you go in training (My spirits rose!) I hope you'll be taught how to open a cream bottle without spilling it!" Just a sample of what the public expects of us! Probably there is nothing that could help a human being earnestly trying to do his or her job in the best way more than being shown a mirror wherein he might see himself, his struggles, and their effect on people, as through the eyes of others. "Now we see through a glass darkly" or "Oh wad some power the giftie gie us To see oursel' as ithers see us,"
