THE COMPILATION below is a working bibliography of bibliographies on Czech literature and language for the scholar, student, and librarian. Of indispensable aid in preparing it were the Bibliographic Index (New York: Wilson, 1938-) and Theodore Besterman's World Bibliography of Bibliographies (4th ed.; Lausanne: Societas Bibliographica, I965-66). The latter was particularly useful for gaining access to general Czech bibliographies published in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The national bibliography, Bibliograficky katalog CSR, was also consulted. Most of the sources were examined in the library holdings of Syracuse University and Cornell University. The bibliography is selective and is divided into three parts: (i) general bibliographies, (2) bibliographies on Czech literature and language, and (3) bibliographies on individual Czech authors.
