An isolate (69-729) was obtained from birds showing clinical signs and lesions of infectious bursal disease (IBD). When inoculated into susceptible embryos it produced lesions characteristic of those produced by infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV). Its chloroform resistance, size, and cross-neutralization suggest that isolate 69-729 is an IBDV and that it is closely related, from the antigenic standpoint, to strain 2512 of IBDV. In the immune survey, antibodies against IBDV were found in 90.5% of the tested flocks, located in the main poultry-rearing areas of Mexico.
