RAM5 reported an outbreak of Dispharynx spiralis (Syn. D. nasuta) infestation in a flock of Racing Homer pigeons of the U. S. Army Signal Corps, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The report did not describe the microscopic changes in the infected proventriculus. Raggi and Baker13 described a natural outbreak, in domestic pigeons in California, of D. nasuta and another proventricular worm, Tetrameres americana. These authors believed that T. americana was primarily responsible for the moribund condition of the birds, and the other parasite was not significant. D. nasuta was originally described by Rudolphi,'4 in 1819, as a parasite of the sparrow, under the name of Spiropte!ra nasuta. This nematode has since been reported from the domestic fowl (Diesing,7 Casali,2 Colucci,3 Piana,11 Johnston,9 Purvis,12 and others) and from several wild game birds (Cram,4 Madsen,10 Boyd,' Goble and Kutz,8 and others).
