Sinan as Anti-Classicist

Abstract

L'A. distingue trois periodes dans l'art de Sinan : une periode preclassique (1540-55) illustree par les trois mosquees Sehzade, Uskudar Mihrimah, Edirnekapi Mihrimak ou malgre la tendance vers un ordre classique, restent lourds volumes et structures et simple l'articulation des facades, une periode classique (1555-70) representee par la mosquee Suleymaniye ou l'architecture ottomane atteint une sophistication et une maturite culminantes, une periode post-classique (ou anti-classique) commencee par une phase d'experimentation utilisant des structures hexagonales, des fenetres semi-circulaires, puis clairement definie par la mosquee Rustem Pasa, la mosquee Selimiye a structure octagonale. Les six dernieres mosquees de Sinan, situees a Istanbul mis a part celle de Muradiye a Manisa, relevent d'une tendance manieriste
