La neutralidad y la educación

Abstract

La pretensión neutralista Una de las metas más deseadas en la sociedad democrática es conseguir un sistema educativo del mismo carácter. Y como parece que pensar en una sociedad homogénea en la que todos defiendan los mismos objetivos concretos va en contra de la experiencia muchos autores han creído encontrar el cauce apropiado a sus deseos en la «escuela neutral» olvidando que bajo ese lema se solapan los más grandes relativismos acerca de las cuestiones humanas. El hecho de que el planteamiento neutralista no tenga sentido en una sociedad de régimen totalitario tampoco debe inducirnos a creer que este tipo de régimen es el más adecuado a la vida humana. Difícilmente los totalitarismos -sistemas cerrados en palabras de Popper- que someten las más indispensables libertades del hombre a los dogmatismos particulares del Estado pueden ofrecer un estilo deseable de vida personal. La neutralidad se presenta en educación como reacción a toda intención autoritaria pero avoca a otro extremismo igualmente rechazable: defender -bajo el pretexto de proteger la libertad- la absoluta falta de reverencia hacia lo sagrado la verdad y la virtud.
