Cirrose hepática - quem será o culpado?

Abstract

Resumo: O arsénio é um composto inorgânico amplamente distribuído no ambiente, cuja exposição aguda e/ou crónica constitui um problema global de saúde pública, dados os a inúmeros efeitos adversos a que se associa. Os autores apresentam um caso de um doente com cirrose portal, com hipertensão e trombose portal, que depois de extenso estudo etiológico se concluiu como provável caso de intoxicação crónica a arsénio, no contexto de ingestão prolongada e inadvertida de solução de Fowler para tratamento de psoríase. Abstract: Arsenic is an inorganic compound widely distributed in the environment, whose acute and/or chronic exposure constitutes a global public health problem, given the many adverse effects that are associated. The authors present a case of a patient with portal cirrhosis with portal hypertension and thrombosis, which after extensive etiologic study was concluded as a probable case of chronic arsenic poisoning in the context of prolonged and inadvertent ingestion of Fowler's solution for treating psoriasis.
