RESUMEN Los astrocitomas son una neoplasia glial relativamente frecuente del sistema nervioso central, pero sólo un pequeño porcentaje de los mismos se localiza en la médula espinal, con predilección por las regiones cervical y dorsal. En la mayoría de los casos se extienden en sentido longitudinal, afectando a varios segmentos de la médula. El dolor es el síntoma inicial frecuente, de carácter local en los segmentos óseos que comprometen el tumor, asociado a déficit sensitivo y/o motor. Se presenta a continuación el caso de una mujer de 60 años con un astrocitoma medular cervical extendido a l tronco encefálico. ABSTRACT Astrocytomas are relatively common glial neoplasm of the central nervous system, but only a small percentage of them are located in the spinal cord, with a predilection for the cervical and dorsal regions. In most cases, extend longitudinally, affecting several cord segments. Pain is a frequent symptom of local character bone segments involving the tumor, associated with sensory deficit and / or motor. The following is the case of a 60 year old woman with cervical cord astrocytoma extended to the brainstem.
