Recorridos olvidados: la flâneuse silenciada

Abstract

Palabras clave Flâneuse, flâneur , Gradiva, Baudelaire, Mercedes Garcia Bravo Forgotten Walks: The Silenced Flâneuse Abstract The figure of the flâneur , the leisurely stroller that walked anonymously without specific destination in European metropolises in the late nineteenth century, fascinated writers such as Balzac, Baudelaire and Benjamin. However, the female counterpart of this archetype has rarely been noticed, those flâneuses that that were inseparable from the public sphere and that occupied the centre of cities and factories. This article analyzes stories like that of Gradiva as examples of the flâneuse, and argues for the necessity of rejecting the idea of public and private spheres as absolutely closed concepts; only then will it be possible to arrive at a more realistic understanding of urban experience at that time. Key words Flâneuse, flâneur , Gradiva, Baudelaire, Mercedes Garcia Bravo
