Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a relação entre a taxa básica de juros da economia brasileira, a Selic Over, e a taxa de câmbio Ptax no período de 2016 a 2020. A pesquisa busca compreender de que forma a política monetária, conduzida pelo Banco Central do Brasil, influenciou o comportamento cambial em um contexto marcado por instabilidade política e recessão econômica. O problema central investigado é: como a taxa Selic Over influenciou a taxa de câmbio Ptax entre 2016 e 2020? Para isso, o estudo utilizou dados mensais das duas variáveis obtidos no Ipeadata e aplicou o método de regressão linear simples. Os resultados demonstraram uma relação negativa entre a Selic Over e a Ptax, o que indica coerência com a teoria econômica, segundo a qual juros mais altos tendem a atrair capital estrangeiro e valorizar a moeda nacional. No entanto, a presença de autocorrelação positiva dos resíduos, identificada pela estatística de Durbin-Watson (0,24), compromete a validade estatística do modelo, permitindo afirmar apenas que a hipótese foi parcialmente confirmada. O estudo reforça a importância da taxa de juros como instrumento de política monetária e sua influência direta sobre os fluxos cambiais e o equilíbrio macroeconômico do país.
