The spread of Torres Strait Creole, now the common language of Torres Strait Islanders, to the central islands of the Torres Strait between the early 1900s and World War II is discussed. The historical circumstances of movement and interaction among islanders that led to creolisation and diffusion of Torres Strait Creole are described.
