Abstract

O termo hiperplasia está relacionado à proliferação do tecido conjuntivo que pode ser ocasionada por diversos fatores etiológicos. Dentre as várias hiperplasias ocasionadas por esses diferentes fatores, enfatizaremos aquelas causadas pelo uso de próteses dentárias mal adaptadas. A hiperplasia inflamatória caracteriza-se pela proliferação da mucosa bucal, devido a um aumento no ritmo de divisão celular com manutenção do seu padrão mortofuncional. A arterioesclerose é uma doença crônico-degenerativa que ocasiona um estado de inextensibilidade e enfraquecimento dos vasos pela presença de lipídios na túnica íntima. Ao considerarmos que o uso de próteses, assim como a arterioesclerose é comum em indivíduos acima dos 35-40 anos, buscou-se verificar a prevalência dessa patologia dos vasos sangüíneos em casos de hiperplasia inflamatória, visando a utilização dessas biópsias como um recuso adicional de diagnóstico de arterioesclerose. Para isso, foi realizado um levantamento dos casos de hiperplasia inflamatória da mucosa bucal, registrados no Laboratório de Patologia da FO-UFRGS nos últimos 5 anos. A partir da observação microscópica do material corado pela hematoxilina-eosina, verificou-se que dos 166 (100%) casos registrados, 75 (45,2%) apresentavam, além de capilares, artérias e/ou veias. Dessas 75 (100%) biópsias, 35 (46,6%) apresentavam sinais morfológicos de arterioesclerose evidenciados pela visualização de células vacuolizadas na parede interna dos vasos. Sendo assim, mediante a análise dos resultados obtidos sobre a prevalência de arterioesclerose em casos de hiperplasia inflamatória, verifica-se a possibilidade da utilização de biópsias de hiperplasia inflamatória provocadas por prótese mal adaptadas como um fator auxiliar no diagnóstico da arterioesclerose.
