El teatro independiente es una nueva forma de hacer y conceptualizar el teatro que surge en Buenos Aires a fines del año 1930, de la mano de Leónidas Barletta (1902-1975) y su Teatro del Pueblo. Su propósito fue distanciarse de tres elementos: el ac-tor cabeza de compañía, el empresario comercial y el Estado; y su nacimiento implicó cambios en materia de poéticas, formas de organización grupal, vínculos de gestión con el público, militancia política y teorías estéticas. El propósito de este trabajo es realizar aportes para la elaboración de una futura historia integral del teatro independiente.
