Neurotoxicidade de Micotoxinas

Abstract

Micotoxinas são metabólitos secundários produzidos por fungos filamentosos que, ao contaminarem alimentos, representam um risco significativo à saúde pública. Embora seus efeitos hepato, nefro e imunotóxicos sejam amplamente descritos, evidências crescentes indicam impactos relevantes sobre o sistema nervoso. Esta revisão sistemática investigou os efeitos neurotóxicos das principais micotoxinas alimentares, com ênfase nos mecanismos moleculares envolvidos. Foram analisados 35 artigos publicados entre 2015 e 2025, identificados nas bases CAPES, BVS, SciELO e PubMed, segundo critérios PRISMA. Os resultados revelam que essas toxinas podem atravessar a barreira hematoencefálica e induzir estresse oxidativo, disfunção mitocondrial, apoptose, neuroinflamação e alterações no metabolismo de neurotransmissores e lipídios. A exposição crônica, mesmo em baixas concentrações, foi associada a déficits cognitivos, alterações comportamentais e possíveis contribuições para doenças neurodegenerativas. As evidências, majoritariamente baseadas em modelos in vitro e animais, alertam para a necessidade de regulamentações mais rígidas, especialmente frente a micotoxinas emergentes ainda não normatizadas. Conclui-se que a exposição alimentar a micotoxinas representa um risco neurológico relevante, demandando maior vigilância, aprofundamento científico e estratégias preventivas eficazes.
