Abstract

Mediante una serie de discusiones acerca de la conciencia y el bienestar animal, el deber indirecto y directo, la ética y la justicia, Tom Regan busca establecer las bases teóricas y filosóficas del movimiento en pro de los derechos animales. Las controversias que Regan establece con otros autores y su sólida argumentación demuestran que los seres humanos y los animales tienen una gran cantidad de elementos en común, lo que obliga a concebir una responsabilidad moral hacia ellos. Por si fuera esto poco, las reflexiones filosóficas trascienden su objetivo y van más allá de la cuestión animal, al formar parte de la propia discusión alrededor de la cuestión de los derechos humanos.
