This editorial focuses on the effect that depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) or Depo-Provera® has on skeletal health. It describes what happens to bone mineral density (BMD) during Depo-Provera® use as well as what happens after Depo-Provera® is discontinued. It also discusses the evidence behind this particular issue but states the importance of DMPA as a highly effective method of birth control for healthy women.
