‘Functional Cure‘ of HIV Infection: The Role of Immunotherapy

Abstract

245 ISSN 1750-743X 10.2217/IMT.12.2 © 2012 Future Medicine Ltd Immunotherapy (2012) 4(3), 245–248 “...the concept of ‘functional cure’ ... is based on the observation that a low proportion of HIV-infected patients ... are able to maintain HIV replication below a detectable level, without abnormalities in CD4+ T-cell counts, for more than 25 years. It has been proposed that strong HIV-specific immune responses observed in these patients would explain this natural ‘functional cure’.”
