Abstract

Telah tejadi kerusakan pada pipa pemanas di sebuah pengilangan. Pipa terbuat dari baja karbon menengah. Kerusakan ditandai dengan pecahnya pipa baris 2 no 4 yang mengakibatkan terhentinya produksi. Setelah dilakukan kajian analisa kegagalan, penyebab utama kegagalan adalah short term overheat, sementara pipa di sekitarnya masih terlihat baik. Untuk menghindari kerusakan serupa pada pipa disekitarnya, dilakukan kajian umur sisa dengan uji creep yang dipercepat dan uji korosi. Dari hasil uji creep dengan metoda Larson Miller pada temperatur 400ºC diperoleh umur sisa pipa di atas 100 tahun, pada temperatur 500ºC umur sisanya 24 tahun sedangkan pada temperatur 700ºC umurnya tinggal 1,33 jam. Di atas 700°C terjadi short term overheat. Dari hasil uji SEM dan EDAX ditemukan produk korosi FeO, SO3, ZrO2. Dengan menghitung ketebalan minimum yang diijinkan dan mengukur ketebalan pipa dengan UT diperoleh laju korosi 0,0067 mm/tahun, dan umur sisa pipa tinggal 21 tahun.
