INFLUENCIA DE LA CERTIFICACIÓN DEL FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL EN LA ESTRUCTURA DEL INGRESO DE COMUNEROS DE OAXACA, MÉXICO

Abstract

The objective of this article was to compare the income structure of community members employed in a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified versus non-certified forest harvesting in communities in the state of Oaxaca. The research was carried out in 2022 through the application in situ of 90 personal interviews, using a semi-structured questionnaire, to community members from a certified community and 62 from a non-certified one. Using descriptive analysis, we obtained per capita income, family income, and income structure in both cases. There is a difference of $35.53 in individual monthly income between the two communities; however, families in the certified community earn $733.10 more. Certification has had little influence on increasing the wages of direct workers, but has discouraged migration processes by generating indirect employment alternatives.
