FAMILIA PRIMULACEAE

Abstract

La familia cuenta con alrededor de 28 géneros y 800 especies distribuidas ampliamente en todos los continentes, con mayor abundancia en las zonas templadas y frías del Hemisferio Norte. Económicamente tiene importancia debido a que Primula y Cyclamen son ampliamente cultivados por razones ornamentales. Lysimachia mexicana R. Knuth es una planta conocida de Hidalgo, Veracruz y Chiapas. Debido a la cercanía del área de estudio con los dos primeros estados, no es imposible que este elemento esté representado en algún sitio de la Sierra Madre Oriental que corresponda al área de esta Flora, especialmente en aquellos lugares que cuentan con vegetación de coníferas y de encino. Se caracteriza por sus flores de color blanco, agrupadas en umbelas axilares. Estudios recientes sugieren que las familias Primulaceae y Myrsinaceae son grupos parafiléticos. Para ser monofiléticos, correspondería transferir Samolus a Theophrastaceae, así como Anagallis, Ardisiandra, Coris, Cyclamen, Glaux, Lysimachia y Trientalis a Myrsinaceae. Sin embargo, en espera de una discusión profunda que permita circunscribir correctamente estas familias, aquí se sigue el criterio tradicional de considerar a estos géneros como parte de Primulaceae.
