
La familia Zamiaceae pertenece al orden Cycadales, mismo que comprende dos familias adicionales del Viejo Mundo: Cycadaceae y Stangeriaceae. En total, existen 11 géneros y alrededor de 190 especies de Cycadales, distribuidas en las regiones tropicales y subtropicales de la Tierra. Zamiaceae es la familia más grande, con ocho géneros y alrededor de 164 especies, distribuidas tanto en el Hemisferio Occidental, como en el Oriental. En la zona de estudio se reconocen tres géneros.
