FAMILIA LYCOPODIACEAE

Abstract

Lycopodiaceae son un linaje monofilético, homospórico (Wikstrom y Kenrick, 2000, 2001; Judd et al., 2008), cuyos representantes actuales provienen de cladogénesis relativamente recientes (segunda mitad del Cretácico), mientras que la familia procede de eventos mucho más antiguos a partir de una división temprana de las plantas vasculares en el Carbonífero temprano (Wikstrom y Kenrick, 2001). La circunscripción taxonómica de los géneros de la familia ha tenido muchos cambios y actualmente se reconocen tres subfamilias (Huperzioideae, Lycopodielloideae y Lycopodioideae), 16 géneros y 388 especies (PPG I, 2016), de distribución global cosmopolita, pero con mayor diversidad en las zonas templadas y templado-frías de las montañas intertropicales. Aproximadamente la mitad de las especies se encuentra en América tropical (principalmente América del Sur). Para México se reconocen siete géneros con 21 especies (Mickel y Smith, 2004), de los cuales los siguientes taxones se encuentran, al menos probablemente, en el área de estudio.
