The design of a uniaxial load creep machine for testing small scale metallic structures such as beams, plates and thin-walled cylinders is described. A special drum device introduced first by Hart is utilized to achieve step loading during creep tests. Some proof test results on four-point bending beams at room temperature are presented. It is noted that the specimen temperature can be controlled within a +-0.2/sup 0/C fluctuation. Measurements of displacements exhibited creeplike behavior in the range of loads and times considered.
