Recently, at least in the urban areas, a formal beriberi disease has shown a remarkable-decrease, however there are not a few cases developing the symptoms, similar to beriberi.In these two years, on the 1, 326 out-patients with main complaint of beriberi, I have studied the problem of existance of true beriberi, of entity of beriberi-like conditions and of its treatment.And the following results have been gained hither-to:1) Although there are not a few cases who show symptoms, similar to beriberi, cases of true beriberi are hardly found; all of them are more and less unsound, and most of them must be regarded as beriberi-like conditions without deficiency of thiamine.2) It is considered that entity of beriberi-like conditions is of plurifactor, and probably it derives mainly from the unbalance of the internal secretion system and of the automa-tic nervous system.3) Consequently, there is no uniform and efficient treatment for it on account of the pluri-factor of its entity.
