Abstract

Las hormigas son uno de los grupos de insectos mas comunes en los ecosistemas terrestres del planeta, importantes agentes de la dinamica y estructura de bosques, agrosistemas e incluso ambientes antropicos. En el mundo Colombia ocupa un lugar destacado en diversidad, con 11 subfamilias, 105 generos y unas 1200 especies descritas. El proposito del libro es ofrecer informacion actualizada en aspectos de sistematica, filogenia, morfologia, metodos de captura y estudio y biologia de las hormigas en general. Asi como una sinopsis de las especies conocidas del pais, con claves y diagnosis para las subfamilias y generos, incluso para las especies esperadas; esta incluye distribucion por departamentos. El presente libro es el resultado de 30 anos de investigacion, con 37 capitulos escritos por 64 autores de 7 paises; la mayoria de ellos autoridades mundiales en sus campos de accion.
