El hacinamiento carcelario en Colombia: ¿una realidad sin respuesta?

Abstract

Nils Christie en un libro publicado en los años 80s, señalaba lo siguiente frente al sistema carcelario: “La imposición de un castigo, dentro del marco de la ley, significa causar dolor, dolor deliberado. Ésta es una actividad que frecuentemente está en desacuerdo con los valores estimados, como la bondad y el perdón.” (Christie, 1983, p. 7). Si este autor hubiese vivido las condiciones carcelarias que vive Colombia hoy, no solamente reflexionaría en torno a la forma en la que se impone el castigo, con dolor, por supuesto, sino que también, creería, pensaría y reflexionaría en lo cruel que se ha tornado el sistema carcelario, sin espacios, sin buena alimentación, con pocos programas exitosos de resocialización y bajo el amparo de una pena que moral y jurídicamente es reprochable frente a la posibilidad que ofrece de reinserción tanto política como laboral.
