
Afro-Latin American studies address a series of highly complex issues on Latin American populations that include the Americas and the Caribbean from multidisciplinary perspectives. In recent years, this field of study has consolidated itself as an epistemologically solid and key aspect in the processes of mobilization and vindication of populations that share racialized life experiences. This study approaches Afro-Latin American studies from a scientometric perspective that establishes a bibliometric design based on two prominent scientific databases, Scopus and Web of Science. Among the results are presented the most productive institutions and countries, outstanding authors over time, Lotka and Bradford’s law applied to publication sources and authors, the main articles with the highest number of citations, publication sources with the highest production, themes and significant keywords in the corpus analyzed. The conclusions emphasize the need to delimit the approaches to Afro-Latin American studies and consider the new forms of collective work, to recognize the diverse perspectives and changes in the current scientific culture in order to advance towards the inclusion of Afro-Latin American visions and voices, as a locus of enunciation that finds solid social support in social movements.
