AZZAROLI Istituto di Geologia e Paleontologia dell’Universit:‘1 di Firenze Biogeografia dei mammiferi della Sardegna FAUNE A MAMMIFERI DELLA SARDEGNA Stupisce a prima vista, nella fauna a mammiferi della Sardegna, Ia quasi totale rnancanza di peculiarite. In effetti la fauna sarda non si distingue da quella del continente se non per la presenza del rnuflone, di un gatto di tipo africano, e per la mancanza della talpa. Quest’assenza di pcculiarite, che la Sardegna condivide del resto con le altre isole mediterranee, in realte e solo apparente. La fauna sarda attuale e frutto d’importazione recente. Faune endemiche ricche e variate si sono succedute durante 11 Terziario e il Quaternario ma sono oggi del tutto estinte, e la loro estinzione e dovuta in larga misura a11’azione dell’uomo, ancora in tempi preistorici e protostorici. Le nostre conoscenze sulle faune enclerniche, in particolare sulle pit‘; antiche, sono framrnentarie e lacunose, e tuttavia forni- scono indizi quanto mai interessanti sulla storia paleogeografica de11’iso1a. EVOLUZIONE PALEOGEOGRAFICA DELLA SARDEGNA 1 — Tmslazioizi della crostcz terrestre Due ordini di fenomeni hanno influenzato la paleogeografia della Sardegna durante il Terziario e il Quaternario: le traslazioni di frarnmenti della crosta terrestre, con forti spostarnenti anche in senso Verticals, e 1e oscillazioni del livello marino.
