Abstract

Geographic variation. SUMMARY 23 populations of the European plethodontid salamander ['1)'d}‘(lI}l/I/ll‘(.’5 have been studied by means of multilocus electrophoresis. The obtained results show a high level of genetic fmgmentation even within species and a genetic structure frequently coincident with the orography. The role of the paleoclimzltic events of Quaternary in moulding the present genetic structure of the Sardinian Hyzlrozmzurcr. and ofa variety ofendemic organisms as well, is demonstrated ofprimaiy importance.
