Due to climate change, strong awareness has risen within the City of Paris regarding the need for urban cooling. Among other cooling techniques, pavement-watering has been experimented since 2013. More recently, the LIFE ”Cool & Low Noise Asphalt” project aims to study the microclimatic and thermal performance of three innovative pavements. Since 2019, the innovative pavements were watered to reduce pedestrian heat stress during summer. Depending on the pavement, maximum reductions between -0.6 to -0.7 °C of air temperature were observed. Maximum reductions around -2 °C of UTCI-equivalent temperature lasting from 8 to 12h were observed. The impact of resurfacing the pavement and the combined effect of resurfacing and watering are also studied.
