Child marriage has been a lingering problem in Nigeria especially in the northern part of the country where religion, culture and social structure supports and promotes child marriage. Child marriage has been an age long problem and is being seriously frowned at by the enlighten citizens of the Nation and the developed world because such marriages does not look in the best interest of the child and has over the years been known to expose the child to untold hardship, unfulfilled dreams and dangerous body system dysfunction and other health challenges. Owing to these and so many other implications, child marriage has come to be rightly seen as disadvantageous to the child. On the strength of the foregoing, child marriage ought to be vehemently combated. To cure this defect, the Child Rights Act 2003 was promulgated. However, the degree to which the Act is being enforced and complied with in Nigeria leaves much to be desired. This work will therefore review the meaning, and negative impacts of child marriage on the Nigerian child especially the girl child. The research methodology adopted in this work is doctrinal and the approach is analytical. The data deployed in this work are collated from both the primary and secondary sources such as decided cases, the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Child rights Act 2007, the internet, textbooks and other scholarly articles. This research work recommends that the Federal Government should establish a commission that will be saddled with the duty of fighting child marriage, fishing out offenders and prosecuting them in line with the law.
