Jürgen Habermas Diskursethik (Juergen Habermas' Discourse Ethics)

Abstract

English Abstract: In this paper, the Habermasian approach to discourse ethics is summarized and criticized in a systematic way in order to give the reader a comprehensive but short review of the central ideas, strengths and shortcomings of the Habermasian discourse ethics. The following points are considered: The Kantian origin of discourse ethics and its central theorems; the genesis and necessity of morals as a result of the individual reciprocal vulnerability in a social world; the difference between moral and evaluative questions; the moral point of view of the practical discourse; the problem of ultimate justification; the problem of practical application of discourse ethics; and finally further critique. The paper bases on the anthology “Erlauterungen zur Diskursethik“ by Jurgen Habermas (1991).
