During the Indonesian presidential election in April 2019, the political tension was thick. Indonesians seemed to be divided by different political opinions and views. Many relationships were divided and even family ties were almost severed. The unity among Indonesians was weak but important to be created. RajutKejut, a knitting community in Jakarta who was concerned about the issues, expressed their concern by making a giant knitted flag with the words, "Merajut Keberagaman" or Knitting Diversity. The knitted flag was handmade, pro-bono, and installed in an open public space. RajutKejut was trying to send an important message to the public to reunite, despite all the differences. Unity in diversity is the Indonesian cultural philosophy. This research pursues a research question: what drove the knitters of RajutKejut to be enthusiastic to make the piece together, and the aspects that encouraged them to work passionately and to get the work done, even though there were many differences among them. This research uses qualitative data collection methods, and is analysed using the Craftivism approach by dissecting the personal, community, and political aspects. At the end of the discussion, this research would show that the common concern about unity could raise such vast energy for the knitters, and this energy drove them in solidarity and brought them hope.
