This paper investigates the impact of state ownership on the corporate risk taking activity in a transition economy. More specially, we analyze the relationship between government ownership and corporate risk at the firm level in Vietnam. Employing different techniques of panel data estimation, we find that firms with higher state ownership tend to take more risk-taking activities. The findings support the privatization strategy in transition economies.
