Trudnooa i materinstvo u zatvorskim uslovima (Pregnancy and Maternity in Prison Conditions)

Abstract

English Abstract: Prison experiences of incarcerated women distinctively differ from those of incarcerated men, and are conditioned by specific characteristics of female crime, as well as by non-existence of differentiated rules and regulations for the execution of prison sanction that would be adjusted to particular women's needs. Pregnancy and maternity thus present the largest obstacles for the equal treatment of all inmates and imply not only technical and staff modifications, but also the creation of a special approach towards imprisoned women. The paper examines law regulations that deal with status of incarcerated pregnant women and mothers and also points out special problems and difficulties of female prisoners that emanate from parenting from the inside of a prison.
